Assumption University and Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Parish will hold a special church service on Friday, July 9, in recognition of the need for healing and reconciliation in light of recent discoveries on the sites of several residential schools.

A joint statement issued by principal John Cappucci of Assumption University and chaplain Steven Huber of Campus Ministry expressed grief and condolences on the discovery of 182 unmarked graves outside of the former St. Eugene’s Mission School in British Columbia.

“We are particularly grieved and ashamed to learn that this residential school was under the auspices of a Roman Catholic organization,” they wrote.

The Mass for Justice and Peace is open to everyone, but due to the pandemic and limited seating capacity, individuals wishing to attend are required to register in advance. The service will also be livestreamed on Youtube starting at 7 p.m.
