Students hoping to jump-start youth sport

Kinesiology students Ryan Brunelle and Stefanie Podnar are hoping to help kids learn new skills, build confidence, and boost their self-esteem through sport.

The two will be collecting donations outside the Lancer women's volleyball game at 2 p.m. and men’s volleyball game at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, in the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse, with the proceeds to benefit the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.

Jumpstart helps kids facing financial and accessibility barriers access sport and play. Since 2005, it has helped more than 2.4 million kids across the country get involved in activities like hockey, soccer, swimming, and ballet.

It's a course project for their class in Social Responsibility and Sport, but also a cause near to their hearts, says Brunelle.

“Together, we can help,” he says. “Every dollar of your donation helps kids get into the game.”

Donations are also accepted online.
