October is Fair Trade Month, and the University of Windsor is actively embracing this global movement, committed to securing fairer prices and better working conditions for farmers and workers.
"Sometimes purchasing Fair Trade goods appears to be a modest thing that every one of us can do every day, but in reality, it is a significant choice that can dramatically affect people who produce them," says Nadia Harduar, Sustainability Officer. "It implies dependable costing, economic expertise and physical conditioning, as well as social and economic growth as just a few highlights."
Fair Trade products can be found at several locations across the campus, making it convenient for individuals to choose products that support fair and ethical trade. These options are available at Origins Café (Toldo Health Education Building), C&B (Ron W. Ianni Faculty of Law Building), Starbucks (CAW Student Centre and Toldo Lancer Centre) and through Catering Services.
To further advance sustainable practices, the University's Sustainability Office has been hosting a series of booths throughout October and will continue into early November. These booths cover a range of sustainability initiatives, including Fair Trade, UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Circular Economy.
A booth is scheduled for the Fall Open House on October 28 at the Centre for Engineering Innovation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Additional booths will be held on October 31, November 1, and November 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a "spin the wheel" activity and raffle prizes in the CAW Student Centre.
Students and staff are encouraged to attend the University of Windsor Sustainability Office's upcoming booths or visit designated Fair Trade locations across campus for more information and active involvement.
