UWindsor Strengthens Global Position in 2025 Times Higher Education Rankings

WINDSOR, Ont. – The University of Windsor continues to rise among the world’s leading institutions, securing its place within the top 26 per cent of universities worldwide in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2025 World University Rankings.

This year’s ranking saw UWindsor climb 14 spots to 542nd overall, up from 556th in 2024, amidst growing competition from over 2,092 evaluated institutions worldwide.

Robert Aguirre, Provost and Vice-President, Academic said the University’s consistent performance demonstrates its unwavering commitment to research excellence, student success, and industry engagement.

"We are thrilled to see UWindsor continue its ascent in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings,” said Dr. Aguirre.

"This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of our faculty, staff, and students who are driving meaningful change through research, teaching, and community engagement.”

Key Highlights from the 2025 Rankings:

  • Research and Industry Excellence: UWindsor saw significant gains in its research quality and industry engagement scores. The University’s research quality score increased by three points, rising to 59.7, driven by impactful research from initiatives such as the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER). Additionally, the industry score jumped by over five points, reflecting the growing commercial impact of UWindsor’s research and the strength of its partnerships with leading industries.
  • Teaching and Student Experience: UWindsor maintained its strong teaching score of 28.7, highlighting its commitment to student success. Students benefit from hands-on, research-driven learning, accumulating over 650,000 hours of on-the-job learning and more than 751,000 hours of field placements. This real-world experience contributes to UWindsor’s 90 per cent employment rate within two years of graduation, with most graduates working in fields related to their studies.
  • Global Leadership in International Outlook: UWindsor continues to shine in the international outlook category, with a score of 89.7, demonstrating the university’s ability to attract diverse talent from around the world and its commitment to global collaboration.

National and International Impact

Among Canadian universities, UWindsor ranks 20th out of 33 institutions and holds the seventh position among non-medical universities. In Ontario, UWindsor ranks fourth among non-medical universities, showcasing its leadership in research and student engagement in the province.
