Ana Jain will exhibit this and other paintings during “The Stories We Tell,” this week at Mackenzie Hall.
Upasana Jain came late to her artistic practice — taking a Continuing Education course on abstract art about seven years ago inspired her to pursue painting as an avocation.
Procurement manager in the UWindsor finance department, she is displaying works as part of “The Stories We Tell,” the annual exhibition by the Artists of Colour group through May 11 at the Common Ground Gallery and through Mackenzie Hall Cultural Centre.
Jain paints Indian folk art in mixed media, including acrylics and inks, drawing on the Mithila art tradition, which dates back thousands of years in her native India.
“It’s everyday art depicting objects around us as we see them,” she says. “It’s our interpretation and tends to be very symbolic.”
Admission to the exhibition at 3277 Sandwich St. is free and open to the public daily from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
