Display at library entrance promotes myUWindsor app

A display in the Leddy Library this month will help alert students to the benefits of the myUWindsor app, available for download to iPhone, Blackberry or Android smart devices.

The app puts course information, exam schedules, directed messaging and more right in the palms of users’ hands, says John Powell, director of web communications.

“It’s accessible at any time, wherever you are,” he says.

Information Technology Services developed the app and launched it in May. So far, more than 7,200 users have downloaded it.

Lancer game Saturday to feature fun for football fans

Saturday’s football game offers more than the opportunity to watch the Lancer team—ranked seventh in the nation after Monday’s lopsided victory over Ottawa—take on the Guelph Gryphons under the lights on Alumni Field.

It also marks the Windsor debut of the NFL on Campus, a program of the American professional football league offering interactive games, promotions and prizes for young fans.

Album a photographic record of welcome week highlights

The University of Windsor presented a lot of opportunities to her, says recent biology and biotechnology grad Irina Bacanu. She joined hundreds of students in signing a large “thank you” card to donors, Thursday outside the CAW Student Centre.

“I am very grateful to the university for all the resources it has offered us,” Bacanu says. “I just wanted to say thank you to the supporters who made it possible.”

Solar bench provides ideal spot to charge up or work outdoors

If you prefer working outdoors and consider yourself something of an environmentalist, UWindsor’s campus now has the perfect spot for you.

A solar bench, which captures energy from the sun and converts it to electricity, was recently installed near the gardens in front of the Leddy library.

Klaus Dohring, owner of Green Sun Rising, the Windsor company that made and donated the bench, said it’s an ideal location to sit outside and work on a laptop or to charge up an electronic device.

Campaign urges students to value Beats over Buzz

Nevin MacLeod enjoys going out with his friends, sharing some laughs and even maybe a drink or two, but says that in his experience, “the best times are the ones you remember.”

It’s a message the Student Alcohol Education Coordinator hopes to bring to as many of his peers as possible. He says the university years are formative for many young people.

Local gallery to exhibit works by MFA student

A free public reception on Friday, September 7, will celebrate the opening of visual arts student Mike Marcon’s exhibition “Inland Empires” at Artcite, the artist-run centre for contemporary art.

Marcon’s mixed-media installations explore themes related to Canadian identity. Found objects, images and sculpture act as a catalyst for the displacement of symbols and myths that continue to inform the “official” national identity.
