Intramural sports to stage championships Sunday

University Stadium and the St. Denis Centre will play host to championship series in six Campus Recreation intramural sports on Sunday, November 27.

Champions Day will decide the ultimate winners in flag rugby, flag football, ultimate frisbee, men’s soccer, Co-ed soccer and ball hockey.

“Our program will serve more than 2000 participants this semester alone,” says coordinator Josh Leeman. “Champions Day will feature the cream of the crop.”

Feasibility study complete, UWindsor will purchase Windsor Star property

The University of Windsor Board of Governors voted Tuesday to move the School of Social Work and the Centre for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE) to the Windsor Star property at the corner of Pitt and Ferry streets in downtown Windsor.

The board approved the purchase of the property after reviewing a feasibility study by CS&P Architects to reimagine the property for the University’s use. UWindsor President Alan Wildeman announced the decision Wednesday during his keynote address at the annual general meeting of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Cultural festival to light CAW Student Centre

Lights, excitement and culture are on offer Friday as the International Student Society presents the Festival of Lights, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre Commons.

The event is a multicultural celebration, featuring music and dance performances, as well as food and drink from many lands.

“It is this time of the year that every student feels explicitly grateful for being part of one of the more diverse campuses in North America,” says Shruthi Kubatur, the society’s vice-president administration.

UWindsor UNICEF chapter holds bowling fundraiser

The University of Windsor’s UNICEF chapter is hosting a bowling night fundraiser at the alley, located at 675 Tecumseh Road West, November 25 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $12, which includes shoe rentals, and are available beginning today through Friday in the CAW Student Centre commons area. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

Sherri Menard has it all under control. The manager of the Chemical Control Centre, she won yesterday's DailyNews trivia contest and earned two tickets to see the University Players production of Crimes of the Heart.

Menard’s name was drawn from all respondents who correctly answered that Crimes of the Heart won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, that the play’s action is set in motion when Babe shoots her husband, and that Diane Keaton starred in the 1986 film adaptation.

University Wind Ensemble concert to feature flute soloist

Flutist Jonathan Bayley will take centre stage for Stephen Bulla’s Rhapsody for Flute during the University Wind Ensemble’s fall concert, Friday, November 25.

Dr. Bayley is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education and a former director of the School of Music. He taught flute at Alberta College Conservatory of Music for 15 years.

The ensemble, directed by Ric Moor, will perform a program that ranges from spirituals to military music, from pop to classical works. It includes a composition by UWindsor alumna Shelley Marwood titled “On a Whim.”
