University Bookstore to show appreciation for student clientele

The University Bookstore will extend a discount to all UWindsor students on Monday, December 5, in celebration of Student Appreciation Day and Residence Night.

Just show your student card to receive a 10 percent discount on everything in the store except textbooks, computers, software, magazines and gift cards. The savings even apply atop ongoing sales that reduce giftware and board games by 10 percent, and sale books by 50 percent.

In addition, the store will remain open until 7 p.m. for residence night.

United Way publishes guide to community resources

The United Way has compiled a resource guide for people who want to give or receive help during the holidays.

Its Holiday Sharing Guide lists organizations running donation programs for gifts and toys, food bank and baskets, and community meals.

“The guide is a great resource for families looking for food bank resources, toy drives, groups looking to adopt families for the holidays,” says Danielle Moldovan, the charity’s manager of resource development.

Santa Claus parade promises a Dickens of a good time

The UWindsor entry in Saturday’s Santa Claus parade will offer a Scrooge-eye view, says organizer Sandra Davis. The residence life manager says the float reflects the event’s theme, “A Dickens Christmas.”

“Our spectacular entry depicts Scrooge’s view on Christmas morning,” she says. “As he throws open the shutters, he looks across the town square to see people frolicking in traditional festive activities.”

Volunteers from residence and the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance will skate around a Christmas tree, build a snowman, or join in carolling.

Basketball doubleheader to feature Toronto Raptors’ fan zone

The Lancer basketball doubleheader on Saturday, December 3, in the St. Denis Centre is being dubbed Toronto Raptors Night. The NBA franchise will send its mobile fan zone for fans to tour, and youth in attendance will be eligible for Raptors prizes and giveaways.

University Bookstore opens Devonshire Mall satellite operation

The University Bookstore’s temporary storefront in Devonshire Mall is open through the holidays, reports marketing manager Martin Deck, and this year it is better than ever.

“It’s bigger, it’s brighter, and it’s better-located,” says Deck: “Right across from Cinnabon in the food court!”

The store will be open during the mall’s regular hours until Boxing Day, December 26. It offers all the best-selling faculty sweatshirts and a wide variety of other styles of clothing, including a couple of mall-only sweatshirts for just $15.

Festival of Christmas a choral tradition

It has been a Windsor tradition since 1976, and the Festival of Christmas choral concert is guaranteed to get you into the holiday spirit.

The University of Windsor School of Music presents the event on Sunday, December 4, at 3 p.m. at Assumption Church, featuring the glorious voices of the University Singers and the Chamber Choir, accompanied by pianist Alde Calongcagong, harpist Deborah Gabrion, and organist David Palmer.

Reception to mark closing of graduating art student exhibition

A head of cabageA free public reception on Friday, December 2, will celebrate the closing of Awkward (in) tension – the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts graduate group exhibition, now on display in the LeBel Building’s Project Gallery.

Participating artists include Teresa Carlesimo, Jillian Fergusson, Arturo Herrera and Lindsay Whalen. Friday’s reception begins at 7 p.m.
