Music students to take stage for recital

The School of Music’s Take 4 series of student recitals will showcase performances by six students in the Music Building’s Recital Hall, Monday, November 7, at 4 p.m.

The program features:

UWindsor iClimb teams top $1,000 for United Way

Teams from the Faculty of Law and the campus campaign for United Way raised more than $1300 for the charity’s iClimb event at the WFCU Centre.

Volunteers solicited pledges and then climbed the steps inside the east-end arena.

The law school’s team of students, staff and faculty collected $735 and the team from the central campaign raised $571. Members of the campus community also participated on other teams.

Sherri Overholt of the Centre for Executive and Professional Education helped to organize the event; Karen Pillon of the Leddy Library hosted warm-ups.

Champions Cup to honour top varsity team

A challenge cup will recognize the Lancer varsity team each year that best exemplifies what it takes to be a champion in the classroom, on the playing field and throughout the community.

In recognition of the partnership between the Department of Athletics and the Windsor Tri-County Investors Group office in creating the new distinction, it will be called the IG Champions Cup.

Open house gives high schoolers a taste of the UWindsor experience

It takes hundreds of people from across campus to pull off an event as big as Friday's Fall Open House, said Dave Bussière, assistant provost for admissions and recruiting, but it was worth it.

“We had a great day,” he said as his staff wound day from the event, which brought about 2,000 visitors to the University for tours, academic presentations, and information on programs and admissions.

“We have been so busy – the sessions were full to capacity. We have been getting wonderful feedback.”

Prof's potentially controversial documentary to screen at film festival

If the role of a documentary filmmaker is to focus the lens on provocative and potentially incendiary subject matter, then Kim Nelson perfectly fits the part.

However, rather than imposing her own personal opinions on the controversial topics of immigration and multicultural assimilation in Germany, she takes a back seat in her film Berliner, allowing instead for the characters’ own personal stories to define the fundamental conflict there.

Students going homeless for the homeless

The cold weather has come, affecting some citizens of Windsor much more than anyone can imagine.

Members of the UWindsor fraternity Pi Lambda Phi are taking this as chance to promote awareness of the issue of homelessness by camping in a homemade shelter outside the Leddy Library. They are there for three days and two nights, disregarding any condition Mother Nature throws at them, in an effort to mirror the effect of what it is like to be without a home.

Fraternity president Curtis Makish says they have just the bare basics.

Day to celebrate the kindness of strangers – and friends

Where’s Winston? You won’t have to wonder today, as the Lancer mascot will post regular updates of his whereabouts on the University’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.

He has signed up to join the Kindness Krew as it journeys around campus to perform random acts of kindness for students, faculty, staff and visitors. If you spot Winston, be sure to ask him for a favour!
