Please note that this information pertains only to the University of Windsor’s competition. Each Ontario University will have its own process, and University of Windsor students who are applying to other Universities should refer to the guidelines and deadlines of those institutions. The awards are not transferrable and must be held at the institution that awards them.
The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) and the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) programs encourage excellence in graduate studies at publicly-assisted universities in Ontario.
Students in all disciplines are eligible to apply for the OGS. Students in science, engineering and certain areas of kinesiology and psychology who apply for OGS will also automatically be considered for the QEII-GSST. This competition is open to both Masters and PhD level students.
Each OGS /QEII-GSST award is valued at $5,000 per term for two or three 3 terms (maximum value = $15,000).
In order to be eligible to apply for OGS, students must:
- Be registered or intend to register in a graduate program,
- Students applying to hold the scholarship at the Master’s level must have completed no more than twelve (12) months of study at the Master’s level, at any institution, as of December 31, 2025
(Note that Masters students who exceed this limit may still apply if they will be registered in a PhD program at the time they take up the award)

- Students applying to hold the scholarship at the PhD level must have completed no more than thirty-six (36) months of study at the PhD level, at any institution, as of December 31, 2025
- Students who are not currently registered as a graduate student must have applied for admission to that program by the department’s admission application deadline or by March 1, 2026, whichever is earlier.
- * OGS/QEII award may only be held within the first 6 terms of a Masters program and the first 12 terms of a PhD program*
- Have an average of at least 80%
- Applicants entering the first or second year of graduate studies at the time of the application deadline must have an overall average of at least 80%, or the equivalent, in each of the last two years (full-time equivalent)
- Applicants entering the third year or beyond of graduate studies at the time of the application deadline: must have an overall average of at least 80% (or equivalent) on all graduate courses completed
- Please note that students who are employed for more than 24 hours for week are NOT eligible to hold OGS or QEII-GSST
The deadline for students to apply for the 2026/27 OGS/QEII competition at the University of Windsor is January 7, 2026.
Applicants must submit a full application package to their department by the deadline. Note that OGS/QEII awards are not transferable. This competition is managed separately by each university.
