Nursing research shares top honours

University of Windsor researchers shared the top honours at a poster competition last week at the University of Windsor-Oakland University Teaching and Learning Conference. Drama instructor Esther Van Eek's (Un)Learning: Rediscovering the Creative Self and nursing instructors Debbie Rickeard and Judy Bornais' Drama in Trauma received the Dr. Wilbert J. McKeachie International Poster Prize.

“The committee had difficulty separating these two highly engaging and unique posters. In particular the judges were drawn to the 'hooks' each poster used to draw the audience in to the experiential aspects of learning in both drama and nursing,” said Pierre Boulos, coordinator of the poster session. “Both posters engaged the audience at various levels, and modeled ‘experiential’ learning for the audience.”

The McKeachie prize is awarded to promote the importance and value of posters for the exploration of effective and innovative teaching and learning practices and the dissemination of research results. Presenters were encouraged to reconceptualize the typical poster session in creative ways in order to incorporate active learning approaches and interactive engagement with both poster and presenter.
