Faculty of Nursing's message on anti-black racism

We are saddened and angered by past and recent events of anti-black racism and targeted violence towards Black people. The Faculty of Nursing would like to convey our heartfelt concerns for the treatment, wellbeing, and safety of Black students in our program. It is important for allies to stand in solidarity with Black students of our community. As a Faculty, we are using this opportunity to pause, listen and reflect, accelerating our efforts to increase equity and inclusion for all members of our Nursing community. As a result, we are committing to create an equity committee comprised of Faculty, Staff and Nursing Students (current and past) in direct response to addressing this issue. We remain committed to ongoing regular training for staff and faculty in support of educational initiatives for racialized Nursing students. We also are reflecting, as a Faculty, on how to best address the experience of inequities among racialized students and acknowledge that work needs to be done to achieve long term solutions within our curriculum and Faculty. We pledge to join together against anti-black racism and other forms of discrimination and inequities in education, nursing and health care.
