Holiday Greetings 2020

Hi WURA Members....

Happy Holidays!  I hope that you and your family have a Great Holiday and a safe and healthy 2021!

What a year 2020 has been, starting on Friday, March 13th, when the world changed with the arrival of COVID-19.  Since we are now all in the 2nd wave of this virus, and are restricted from doing normal family events, Christmas or Hanukkah 2020 are not necessarily ones that we will want to remember.  In the Windsor-Essex area, we are in a strict "lockdown zone", and are being asked to stay home for the holidays, until past the middle of January.  So, celebrating New Year will also be a non event!  I definitely recommend that you stay safe and follow all the heath guidelines over the holidays! Please continue to wash your hands, wear a mask when in public spaces, socially distance and avoid large crowds.

But, with a vaccine announcement, we definitely have a very bright "LIGHT" at the end of this dark tunnel for 2021.  Be ready to line up for a shot of the vaccine when it becomes available.  As more of the community gets vaccinated, we will be able to relax some of the stringent health guidelines from today.  I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THEN!!

Thank you for your recent Online Vote on the 2021 WURA Executive and Committee positions.  In these uncertain times during this pandemic, the continuity in WURA's leadership is all the more important at this time, for WURA to survive.  To date after a week, we have had some 75 WURA members vote electronically.  Also announced in that recent e-mail, a WURA Research Support Group has been approved and is in the process of getting organized.

The WURA Executive has been meeting virtually since September with the Teams software, supported by the University.  We have been wanting to engage the WURA membership virtually as well, especially after having to cancel the WURA Spring and Fall General Meetings, as well as the Holiday Luncheon.  The Executive have found that Teams does not seem to be easy to use for a larger group, so the Social Committee is planning some activities using Zoom that will bring us together in the New Year.  It seems like many families or groups are already connecting virtually with Zoom.  If you are interested in connecting with WURA in the New Year and do not have Zoom, we encourage you to look at acquiring a 'free' version of Zoom for yourself.  We will be forwarding you more information about Zoom later!

No matter how restricted your celebrations may be over the holidays, we wish you a Great Holiday Season, with a very encouraging, Happy New Year 2021!  If anyone is feeling especially disheartened over the holidays, both myself (519-969-2799) or Jake Soderlund (519-734-6532) stand ready to spread some cheer.  Happy Holidays!
