The Office of Faculty Recruitment and Retention provides support and a variety of services to new academics. These services are listed below:
The OFRR hosts the Orientation Conference usually the first week in July. The conference includes several days of workshops and information sessions for new faculty, librarians and ancillary academic staff. It is intended to orient the new members to their teaching responsibilities and the research environment at the University of Windsor. The conference helps candidates connect with a wide variety of resources on campus.
When the University of Windsor created its Office of Faculty Recruitment and Retention (OFRR) in 1999 (Canada’s first), one of its goals was to help faculty transition more smoothly into the University and the community.
The OFRR created a unique "Seamless Entry Process" that allows new faculty to streamline a seemingly endless series of tedious administrative tasks – establishing an employee profile, registering for benefits and payroll, etc. – all in advance, all through one simple online resource. In order for new faculty to enrol, they will need to have signed a letter of acceptance and have received a UWIN account and a PASSWORD to enrol online. Contact the OFRR for details.
In order to help academics transition to the University of Windsor and City of Windsor, the OFRR has prepared a Faculty, Librarian and Ancillary Academic Staff Orientation Booklet. The booklet lists many resources that may be of assistance in finalizing your employment at the University of Windsor and in your relocation to the City of Windsor. If you do not find the information you are looking for in the information booklet, please do not hesitate to contact the OFRR at 519-253-3000, ext. 1432.
The OFRR provides assistance to new international academics, including but not limited to faculty, librarians, ancillary academic staff, post-doctoral fellows, sessional faculty with their immigration related matters such as how to complete the required work permit applications and permanent residency applications.
The OFRR provides informational and training workshops to Department Heads, Deans, Secretaries/Administrative Assistants, Appointment Committee members and Employment Equity/Procedures Assessors on the following topics:
In conclusion, the OFRR provides assistance on an as-needed basis in assisting academics with spousal hiring, parking, housing, banking, taxes, health care and benefits, insurance, automobile licensing, moving, furniture purchases, parking, computer user accounts, social insurance numbers, and other concerns related to their relocation.
Whatever it takes! The OFRR provides new academics with information for the many needs in their smooth transition to Windsor.
