What prompted you to join the platform?

  • To learn more about other people’s roles and experiences.

How did the coffee chats help you to prepare for the future of work?

  • I learned how to successfully apply for jobs and the importance of a good online profile (LinkedIn). I gained some advice and suggestions on how to write about my experience.
  • I feel more prepared about looking for a job and what to expect in the interview.
  • The person I met for coffee helped me to understand how to highlight my skills better.
  • I learned more about company culture and how different roles are connected.

I have been on one coffee chat. He worked in industrial engineering, the main thing that I got from the conversation was about how to apply for jobs in his sector. We spoke about more general things.

He gave me lots of information on how to make my Linkedin profile look good.  He also offered to go through my resume and make some changes and give me some suggestions on how to write about my experience. He spoke a lot about how to get the attention of an employer.

Now I think my LinkedIn looks much better. I feel more prepared about looking for a job, I got a more general idea about what to expect in an interview.

For lots of different jobs they require specific skills. The person I met for coffee helped me to understand how to highlight those skills better.  A lot of the time, hiring managers don't have that much time to look at your profile so he gave me tips on how to highlight my skills quickly.

He told me more about his company and the company culture. I could relate to his experience and what he has been through. If I get a job where I have to communicate with engineers from other teams I have a better idea of their role and the types of responsibilities they have and how we are all connected.

I didn't really have that much of an idea of what a structural engineer did,  talking to someone in that field helped me to really understand his day-to-day duties. My understanding of that sector improved as a result of that conversation.

At the beginning, I was scared to reach out - but when I received an email I was happy  to schedule a time to meet for coffee and discuss business.

In the future, in a work environment, I would be interested to reach out to colleagues and arrange to go for coffee. You can see that people are also interested as well and that gives you more confidence. So in the future I will definitely go for coffee with colleagues as well.

I'm open to learning more about other people. I would love to learn more about other people's roles.

It's useful talking to someone who has been through the process and is successful. They are happy to share their experience with the new graduates which is really helpful.
