Interfaith symposium to consider relationship between Christianity, Judaism and Islam

A symposium Sunday invites youths to discuss their faiths and share the perspectives of Christians, Jews and Muslims.

Organizers call the symposium, Children of Abraham, an opportunity for young people especially to learn from one another and to experience respectful conversation.

It is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, November 27, in Assumption University Chapel and will be facilitated by Norman King and Kevin George.

CLEW contest winners enjoy free iPads

Leo Oriet, a faculty member in Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and Ashley Chartier, a fourth-year student in Family & Social Relations and Psychology, each won an iPad from the University Bookstore for their participation in the campus-wide CLEW survey.

More than 1500 faculty, staff, and students participated in the study as part of an assessment of the University’s learning management system. Principal investigator Lorie Stolarchuk was overwhelmed with the number of responses received from the survey.

A mighty wind ensemble: contest winner to take in fall concert

Alina Jaworska-Sobiesiak, laboratory safety coordinator in the Chemical Control Centre, won yesterday’s DailyNews contest and two tickets to the University Wind Ensemble’s fall concert, Friday, November 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Assumption University Chapel.

Her name was drawn from all respondents who correctly identified On a Whim as Shelley Marwood’s composition, Canadian Sunset as the work of Eddie Haywood and Norman Gimbel, and Rhapsody for Flute as Jonathan Bayley’s solo.

Tomorrow last chance to cash in on University Club membership promotion

Friday, November 25, is the last Friday of the month, and the last opportunity for UWindsor staff members to take advantage of a special promotion encouraging their membership in the University Club.

Dues for the 2011-12 school year have been reduced from $40 to $30 for each employee who joins on a Friday in November. Every new member will receive that day’s lunch buffet – an $11.95 value – free.

Repair work extends closure of east ramp to Chrysler Hall Tower

Repair work will close the accessibility ramp from Sunset Avenue to Chrysler Hall Tower on November 24 and 25, weather permitting.

The construction is a continuation of the work currently being completed on the building’s pedestrian deck.

Campus clinic to offer free immunization against influenza

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will administer free immunization at a flu vaccine clinic Thursday, November 24, from noon to 8 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre’s Ambassador Auditorium.

All Ontario residents are eligible for the free vaccine, including out-of-province and international students and their families. Just bring identification proving Ontario residency, such as a health card, student card, or driver's license. International students and their family members should be prepared to show a visa or passport.

Lecture to explore theology of non-violence

Drawing on his monastic experiences and dialogue with Eastern religions, Catholic thinker Thomas Merton developed a theology of non-violence, which is the subject of a free public lecture in Assumption University’s Freed-Orman Centre on Thursday, November 24, at 4:30 p.m.

Norman King – professor emeritus in the UWindsor Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures; Assumption University’s Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Religion and Conflict; and director of the School of Theology at Iona College – will explore “Thomas Merton on Non-Violence.”
