Biography

JOHANNA FRANK, B.A. Hons. (Michigan), M.A., Ph.D. (Indiana), teaches courses in dramatic literature and criticism with a focus on U.S. theatre, feminism, and performance. Her teaching honors include the University of Windsor Provost's Educational Leadership Award and the Alumni Association's Excellence in Mentoring Award. She has received grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, American Society for Theatre Research, Association for Theatre in Higher Education, and the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at the University of Michigan. Her essays appear in journals such as Modern Drama, Theatre Topics, Performance Research, Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, and Biography.  As guest editor of Modern Drama (“On Adrienne Kennedy,” 2012) she oversaw publication of Adrienne Kennedy’s previously unreleased play manuscript Diary of Lights. She has served as dramaturge for Brilliant Mind (Marin Theatre Company, 2021) and edited Writing Against Infamy: Selected Letters of Harold Kirson, 1943-1945 (Fordham UP, 2026).
