Dr. Trevor Pitcher works to save the Redside Dace, an endangered freshwater fish species

Dr. Trevor Pitcher, GLIER and Biology Researcher, along with M.Sc students and post doctoral fellows are working against time to restore the population of the endangered Redside Dace.  Fish were collected from a population where they were relatively abundant, and brought to the Freshwater Restoration Ecology Centre (FREC) of which Dr. Pitcher is the director.  The fish will be reared in large tanks at the centre, with the goal of increasing the numbers enough that they can be re-introduced into the streams in the GTA where their populations have declined.
