Microbes and water quality the subject of a large study carried out by Dr. Weisener and his team at GLIER

Dr. Weisener and his students Emily Varga and Nick Falk travelled to New Zealand to participate in a 5 year project to study the microbial communities in New Zealand Freshwater lakes, with the goal of comparing that information to the microbial communities in the Great Lakes.  Changes in the microbial communities can be an indicator of stressed ecosystems, which could give us early warning signs that the ecosystem is changing.
