Dr. Hugh MacIsaac, Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Invasive Species, and researcher at GLIER and School of the Environment has received $1.4 Million in funding over 7 years to study invasive species in the Great Lakes. Recent surveys have shown that the Quagga Mussels are surging in population in the Great Lakes, overtaking the well known Zebra Mussels, which are declining in population. Dr. MacIsaac will collaborate with other researchers at GLIER to determine why this is, and study the impacts the Quagga Mussels are having on the Great Lakes Ecosystem.
