The Walpole Island Land Trust, a charity founded by Clint Jacobs, has received funding from the Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund, with help from Dr. Catherine Febria, a GLIER researcher. The grant will be used to carry out research on the monitoring of bird, frog, and freshwater mussel populations; taking inventory of plant species in the prairie grassland; and clearing invasive phragmites from wetlands, streams, and riverbanks. In the process the researchers will get trained in research methods, in addition to the training they received on how to successfully apply for grants.
