University of Windsor/GLIER partnering with BlackBerry to provide automatic alerts on water quality and quantity

Dr. Trevor Pitcher, director of the of the Freshwater Restoration Ecology Centre and a professor at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research and in the Department of Integrative Biology is heading a project which partners with BlackBerry to provide automatic alerts to things like water quality and water levels.  Automatic, solar powered sensors have been placed in the Detroit River, and send information automatically to the appropriate authorities to alert when water levels are rising, for example, so that the variousl levels of government can react proactively to events and possibly prevent disasters.
