May 16, 2013 - The annual Nursing Celebration of Research and Scholarship event recognized the achievements of Nursing faculty, students and community partners.

The 2013 Faculty of Nursing Research Award was awarded to Dr. Susan Fox-Wasylyshyn. This award is given based on a formal nomination by a colleague and support letters from three referees.

Graduate student (MSc) Anne Foote was recognized for receiving a research grant (the CPI/Rolling Stones Fund for the Advancement of Professional Practice in Infection Control) from the Registered Nurses’ Foundation of Ontario. She has also was the recipient of the A.R. and E. G. Ferriss Graduate Endowment Award and the  Dr. Steve Radin VON Graduate Award.

Two individuals from community partners were also recognized for their contributions to research in our region - Irene Carson from Windsor Regional Hospital and Professor Katharine Hungerford from Lambton College.

May 7, 2013 - Congratulations to Padma Ravi, a first year Collaborative BScN student and a Faculty of Nursing Patient Safety Champion, who has been chosen to attend the 4th Annual IHI Open School Student Quality Leadership Academy, sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, on June 13-14, 2013 in Cambridge, MA. The Student Quality Leadership Academy is a free, two-day program for students and residents designed to build the leadership competencies within all health professions. Participants will learn specific skills related to leading change, managing conflict, communicating effectively, and tackling other leadership challenges they currently face, or will face in their careers. Feedback on Padmin's application stated: "your enthusiasm and interest in leadership made you a stand-out candidate".

May 3, 2013 - The Faculty of Nursing once again was a participant in the fourth annual Research Showcase held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Devonshire Mall.  Faculty and students demonstrated to our community the exciting research that is taking place currently at the University and the Faculty of Nursing.

April 16, 2013 - The 2013 Faculty of Nursing Internal Research Grants have been awarded to Michelle Freeman, Laurie Freeman-Gibb, Cheri Hernandez and Debbie Dayus. These grant applications were subjected to an external review process and the scores were further reviewed by our Research Committee.

April 16, 2013 - Susan Fox has been selected as the recipient of the 2013 Faculty of Nursing Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarship. Susan's nomination and recommendation letters, along with her outstanding CV were a clear testimony that she is most deserving of this recognition.

March 12, 2013 - The following individuals are recipients of the 2013 Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing (COUPN) Awards:

  1. Judy Bornais (AAS - Experiential Learning Specialist) - Excellence in Teaching Award
  2. Michelle Freeman (Assistant Professor) - Doctoral Dissertation Award (nominated via McMaster University where Michelle completed her PhD last year - see McMaster's news story)
  3. Judi Wilson (4th year BScN Preceptor, and Health Promotion Nurse, Student Health Services, UWindsor) - Preceptor Award. Judi also won this award in 2008.

February 28, 2013 - Dr. Maher El-Masri was the recipient of the mid-career scholars/researchers category award at the Celebration of Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity at the University of Windsor, held on February 27, 2013. This is a very prestigious award and to be selected reflects the very high quality of Maher's scholarly contributions not only to the Faculty of Nursing, but to the University and to society.

March 11, 2013:  Prof. Dale Rajacich was interviewed this morning by Tony Doucette, radio host of Windsor's CBC "The Early Shift"  about her team's research on men in nursing. Dale's interview was followed by another interview with Aric Rankin - a graduate student in our program who was one of the participants in the study. Kudos to Dale and her team (Sheila Cameron, Michelle Freeman and Debbie Kane) on a job well done. Hear a recording of the interview.
