January 13, 2014 - Dr. Cheri Hernandez, in partnership with Dr. David Hernandez (from Walden University), has received a $10,000 grant for their research proposal in the Faculty Research Initiative Grant (FRIG) competition at Walden University. This grant provide the funds needed to develop and adequately test the Body Weight Integration instrument.

January 10, 2014 - The Faculty of Nursing is very pleased to partner with de Souza Institute to offer the Graduate Diploma in Oncology/Palliative Care Program.

New for 2014: We have revised the admission criteria to open this program to health care professionals with a completed health-care related undergraduate honour degree and a minimum of two years' experience in a health-related field.

We welcome applications from health care professionals, including nurses, physicians, physician's assistants, physiotherapists, dentists, social workers, psychologists, etc.

November 14, 2013 - Congratulations to 4th year nursing student Mike Ure, whose band "The Mike Ure Band" recently recorded their first single (Shake This Town) in Nashville, which is set to be released on December 1, 2013. The Mike Ure Band is a local country band that is made up of four University of Windsor students.

November 8, 2013 - Dr. Kathy Pfaff (along with co-authors Pamela Baxter, Jenny Ploeg and Susan Jack from School of Nursing, McMaster University) has had two papers published recently:

  • "A mixed methods exploration of the team and organizational factors that may predict new graduate nurse engagement in collaborative practice", published in Journal of Interprofessional Care, November 2013. See abstract and details.
  • "An integrative review of the factors influencing new graduate nurse engagement in interprofessional collaboration", published in Journal of Advanced Nursing, July 2013. See abstract and details.

November 7, 2013 - 4th Year BScN Student Kaitlyn Nantais was featured in Chatham Kent Daily News (October 30, 2013) for spending part of her community placement with the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit infant and family health team administrating the flu shot throughout the municipality.

October 25, 2013 - Congratulations to recent graduate Katrina Baldwin (BScN '13) and instructor Virgina Walsh, whose article titled "An Essential Safe Practice: Independent Double Checks with High-Alert Medications" has been accepted for publication in Nursing 2013. Katrina worked on this paper as part of the Transition to Practice course (scholarly writing lab component), which was taught by Virginia Walsh.

October 7, 2013 - Congratulations to Leslie Skakun, a 3rd year Collaborative BScN student, who is a recipient of this year's ATHENA Scholarship, given through the Windsor Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. The ATHENA Scholarship Program was created in 1999 for full-time post-secondary students between the ages of 18 and 30 years old. As well as having excellent academic achievement, recipients must be interested in increasing leadership opportunities for women and enhancing the quality of life in our community. Leslie and two other recipients were recognized for their leadership excellence, academics and for demonstrating a community spirit that benefits people. They were honoured at the ATHENA Scholarship Luncheon on Thursday October 3, 2013 at the Caboto Club.
