Tuition: no additional fees Eligibility: all undergraduate programs Placements: paid work, separate from course credit
Will I need to pay additional tuition to be an Outstanding Scholar?

No. Outstanding Scholars take the same course load as other students and pay the same tuition and fees.

Do Outstanding Scholars take special courses?

Students participate in training and mentoring opportunities during first and second year. Topics may include human development, innovation, and leadership practice and theory.

Do I need to be in a specific faculty or major?

No. The program is available to students in every undergraduate program at the University of Windsor. The program is also portable if a student changes majors.

Why do students choose Outstanding Scholars?

Students report deeper learning through hands-on research, opportunities to connect with experts in their field, and exposure to academic and career pathways that build on their interests.

Depending on the placement, students may develop conference-ready presentation skills, contribute to publications, and gain experience that supports graduate and professional applications. Students also have exceptional experiences that are strong content for detailed reference letters.

What kind of work do Outstanding Scholars do?

Outstanding Scholars support faculty-led research and creative projects across campus. Learn more about placements.

Can a placement be outside a student’s major?

Yes. Students may work in any area where a faculty member agrees to supervise them as a research or creative assistant.

Can Outstanding Scholars work count as course credit?

No. Outstanding Scholars placements are paid work experiences and must be completed separately from academic credit. If a placement aligns with a thesis or major project, both the paid hours and course requirements must be completed independently.
