Emotional Competence Research Group

Welcome to the Emotional Competence Research Group (ECRG).

Our research focuses on identifying the adaptive expression, regulation, and socialization of emotion among family members.

We aim to better understand the processes involved in emotional self- and other-awareness, empathic involvement with others, adaptive and maladaptive coping, and emotional self-efficacy. Projects focus both on typically developing children and on children with disabilities.

Our group provides opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to conduct research in the lab and in the community. The research generated by the group has resulted in a large database for future research, publication, and presentations.

Activities include training in participant recruitment, data collection with parents and their children with or without disabilities, data transcription and coding, statistical analyses, conference submissions and presentations, and manuscript preparation for publications.
