Black Leadership & Excellence (BLX) Program

BLX Mission

Working to dismantle anti-Black racism on campus and in the broader community, the Black Leadership and Excellence Program ("BLX") was founded with one goal - to help Black residence students excel both inside and outside the classroom. Our mission is to build a space where Black students can grow, learn and connect with one another on a personal, academic, and cultural level. Through a combination of interactive activities, workshops, panels, and wellness and lifestyle initiatives, we plan to offer a variety of opportunities to help students gain valuable experiences and career related transferable skills that will help promote and advance Black lives.

Peer Leaders are an integral part of the Residence Services team and the Black Leadership and Excellence (BLX) initiative in residence. The position focus will be on supporting and mentoring Black residence students which includes but is not limited to: creating an engaging and inclusive space; developing a sense of community within BLX and the residence; providing social and educational learning activities; supporting students to achieve both academic and personal success and making appropriate referrals.
