WURA 2018 Holiday Luncheon

Thursday, December 13, 2018 - 11:30

Roger Lauzon, MaryAnn Rennie and David PalmerSeasonal decorations and a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings in the Freed Orman Commons formed the setting for some 80 members and guests of WURA on December 13 for the Annual Holiday Luncheon.  A student jazz trio welcomed everyone as they renewed friendships and acquaintances.

Past-President David Palmer expressed thanks to Interim President Douglas Kneale and his staff for their support towards making the event possible in that facility.  A raffle with ten door prizes raised $400 for the Retirees’ Student Bursary Fund. Many said this was their favourite social event of the year.

In recognition of her long-time work in helping WURA host its event, Special Events Manager Mary-Ann Rennie received the “Friend of WURA” award. David Palmer presented her with a Certificate, and read the citation written by Datta Pillay: Mary-Ann Rennie first came to the University to work in the Development Office for Mr John Laframboise. In 1985 she began work in the office of Dr Paul Cassano, Senior Vice President. Then she moved to the Advancement Office under Ms Amanda Gellman. President Ross Paul recommended to President Wildeman that she be appointed as Events Manager. She has done an outstanding job as the right hand of President Alan Wildeman for all university events. In addition, she assisted many other offices and gave 100 % willingly. She served as a resource person on WURA 25th Anniversary Committee where her help was invaluable. At all WURA Fall and Spring Meetings, the annual Holiday Luncheons and the President’s Tea for Retirees, her help has been much appreciated. For all the support over the past 20 Years the WURA Executive unanimously recommends that she be given the  “Friend of WURA”.
