Hot Topics - Video Interviews

Upcoming Hot Topic

Hot Topic #6, May 5, 2026 1pm EST via Zoom:

"The Impact of Social Media/Internet on Reading Habits" with Dr. Bruce Tucker, Professor Emeritus, University of Windsor and moderated by Dr. Shelagh Towson.

Have your reading habits changed since you acquired a cell phone and began exploring the world of social media? In this session of Hot Topics, we'll discuss the impact of social media on reading, thinking, and our responses to the constant scramble for our attention generated by tech giants. We'll address the argument floated by some social psychologists that "the great rewiring of childhood is causing an epidemic of mental illness". This is an opportunity to look critically at our everyday experience and talk about the transformation that has been the hallmark of the twenty-first century.
