Title: Non-preemptive Priority Queues with Distinct Customer Selection Rules

Abstract: In 1957, Kesten and Runnenberg determined the waiting time distributions for customers in a single-server, Poisson arrival queue with multiple priority classes and general, class-dependent service times. It was assumed that when the server was ready to select a customer from a particular priority class, it did so on a first-come, first served (FCFS) basis among those customers present. We are aware of no work that has considered any other customer selection rule, or, for that matter, differing customer selection rules for different priority classes. Such a focus is the aim of the present work. The main results that we determine are the waiting distributions for each priority class, for both FCFS and for last come first served (LCFS) customer selection rules. Notable among these results is the fact that for any class employing FCFS customer selection, we establish that its waiting distribution is the same as if all classes employed FCFS.
