Biography
PATRICK SELMI is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work. He previously was on faculty at Syracuse University in New York and the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. Dr. Selmi has published on social work and social welfare history in leading scholarly journals including the Social Service Review. He is currently writing a book manuscript which examines how key social, political, and economic theories, ideologies, conflicts, and debates have shaped the reformist mission of social work over the past century. Dr. Selmi has served as Vice President of the Social Welfare History Group and is involved with the Council on Social Work Education and Association for Community Organization and Social Administration. Dr. Selmi’s practice experience includes working as a school social worker for the Minneapolis Minnesota public school system and as a social worker for a Native American shelter for abused and homeless youth in St. Paul, MN.
