Academic Terms:
First Semester
- Called "Fall Semester"
- Runs from the start of September to December (exams finish just before Christmas)
- The Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday will happen on the second Monday in October (the date of this holiday in the USA is different)
- Thanksgiving is also the start of the Fall break week for all students (except for students taking classes in the Faculty of Law)
Second Semester
- Called "Winter Semester"
- Runs from the start of January to April (exams typically finish 1 week before the end of the month)
- In Europe (and other places) this is often called "Spring Semester"
- The 3rd Monday in February is the Family Day holiday and this is typically the start of a break week for all students
- We do not have a big break at Easter - the only day we get off is the Friday before Easter
2026-2027 Academic year
Fall Semester 2026 (Sept. to Dec.)
- Sept. 6 - is the ideal time to arrive in Windsor (during business hours)
- ** you should not plan to arrive on campus BEFORE these dates
- Sept. 7 - the University is CLOSED for the Labour Day holiday
- Sept. 10 - Classes begin *
- Oct 10-18 - Break Week (also called Reading or Study Week)
(in the Fall this does not include the Faculty of Law) - Dec 9 - Last day of classes *
- Dec 11-22 - Fall semester Exams *
- Dec 23 - Alternate exam day
- Dec 23 - last possible day that a 1 semester students can be in Residence
- Dec. 24 to Jan. 1 - University offices closed
* Dates might be slightly different for the Faculty of LAW and NURSING
Winter Semester 2027 (Jan. to April)
- Jan. 3 - the ideal time to arrive in Windsor
- ** you should not arrive on campus before this date
- Jan. 4 - University Offices reopen
- Jan. 4 - Classes begin *
- Feb 13-21 - Break week (also called Reading or Study Week)
- Mar 26 - University CLOSED for Good Friday
- Apr 5 - Last day of classes *
- Apr 8-19 - Winter semester Exams *
- Apr 20 - Alternate exam day
- April 20 - last day for students can in Residence
* Dates might be slightly different for the Faculty of LAW and NURSING
