The UWindsor Aboriginal Education Centre in collaboration with UWIN Ornithology Club and the Sustainability Office open a call for Indigenous Artisits at UWindsor!

As part of BirdSafe UWin, the campus' Bird Friendly Initiative, we hope to reduce bird-window collisions at the Turtle Island Aboriginal Educaiton Centre, calling any current FNMI UWindsor Students to submit a mural design. 

Guidelines:

  • Dense pattern (2" x2") -following bird friendly window guidelines
  • Line art design (1 colour)
  • Must be in vector format
  • Must be a current Indigenous UWindsor Student

Deadline for submissions: Friday October 31st, 2025

Additional Artwork Guidelines

  • Each window panel is approximately 43 inches (length) x 30 inches (width). There are 8 panels in total.
  • The artwork can be designed in one of two ways: one large image spanning all 8 panels (approx. 86 x 120 inches total), or eight individual designs, one for each panel (43 x 30 inches each).
  • The design density must be 2 inch by 2 inch (5cm x 5cm); line spacing must be no more than 2 inches (5cm) apart.
  • Please submit your design as a vector file

    Stop by the vendor area in CAW on Oct. 21 (12-3pm) & Oct. 27 (2-4pm) to explore sustainability tips, learn how to reduce waste, and connect with the Sustainability Office.

    Huge selection of books removed from circulation — only $1 each, including children’s titles. Find them in carts near the information desk.
  • Odette Sustainability Roundtable – Nov 3rd
    Hosted by The Odette Commerce Society & Net Impact, this event invites Odette students to discuss sustainability in business while painting plant pots to take home. Details coming soon.
  • Clothing Swap Day — Nov, 2025 @ CAW (12-2pm)
    “Swap, Don’t Shop!” Bring your gently used clothes and trade them with other campus members — refresh your wardrobe sustainably. Hosted by the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Support.
  • Imagining Greater Detroit-Windsor Conference – Oct 17 @ Wayne State Law
  • Join the Greater Detroit-Windsor Project and Regional Centre for Expertise for a day filled with insightful presentations, panels, discussions, networking opportunities, and interactive collaboration at our inaugural conference! Panelists include community organizations, city members along with faculty from both Wayne State and UWindsor. Register for free here

See how the UWindsor Campus is celebrating Sustainability Month in March 2025.

Join the UNRCE Sustainability Pitch Challenge, led by Wayne State University for a chance to master the art of crafting a dynamic and impactful pitch. This program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while addressing real-world sustainability challenges.

Graduate and undergraduate students from Wayne State University, University of Windsor, College of Creative Studies, University of Detroit Mercy, and Lawrence Technological University are invited to apply. There is no need for an existing business or idea to participate—just bring your enthusiasm and drive!

Cash Prizes Include:

– 1st Place Grand Prize: $5,000

– 2nd Place Prize: $3,500

– 3rd Place Prize: $1,500

Throughout the 10-week challenge, participants will be teamed up with fellow innovators and have access to exclusive business pitch workshops. In addition, they will receive one-on-one consultations to refine their ideas. By the end of the program, participants will be fully prepared to present their pitch to a panel of judges who will decide the winners. No prior experience in pitching or entrepreneurship is needed—just your enthusiasm and drive!

Participants must be available to attend 9 virtual pitch training sessions and events, which will occur on Fridays for approximately one hour, details on the website linked above.

Join us as we celebrate the unveiling of the campus’ first student-designed Bird Friendly window mural, titled The Feathery Friends of Windsor along with the launch of the inaugural campus Sustainability Framework, as part of Global Bird Rescue Week with PIBO.

Location: CAW 2nd Floor (outside of Auditorium and balcony)

Open remarks to take place at 12:15pm; feel free to mix and mingle while learning more about the campus Sustainability Framework, Bird Friendly Initiative, and a variety of other engaging initiatives.

Light refreshments will be provided, we encourage you to bring your own reusable mug.

  • Celebrate Earth Day at Malden Park from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; enjoy free activities and connect with environmentally conscious organizations.

  • Submit a mural design (theme: connection to nature and birds) to be installed on the CAW 2nd Floor balcony window
  • Top two winning submissions will be awarded $250 each. 
  • Visit Call for Artist submission form for criteria and details. 
  • Sign up and join the UWindsor Green Team from 10:00am to noon to plant trees in the community with ERCA
  • Free transportation from campus to site and back will be provided, leaving campus by 9:30am (limited seats, first come, first serve).
  • Location: The Little River Corridor is located south of Wyandotte Street east between Florence & Martinique in Windsor
  • Discover the campus with a sustainability lens by exploring related initiatives and features that contribute to creating a sustainable campus
  • Sustainability clues will lead you to 10 locations across campus relating to sustainability features
  • "Sustainability Scavenger Hunt" posters will share interesting facts about sustainability. QR code on the poster will also lead you to the submission form and clue list. Enter specific fact on the submission form and move on to the next location. 
    • 5 correct answers = 1 entry into raffle, 10 correct answers = 2 entries
      The raffle prize pack could be Fairtrade hot chocolate, Fairtrade chocolate bar and Fairtrade soccer bottle or a UWindsor branded reusable water bottle from Didomi
  • Practicing “leave no trace” principles; participants will not be collecting any items; they will read clues from designated posters across campus and submit findings on the online form.

Grab your binoculars and join us for a family-friendly birding challenge to spot the most birds in Windsor during a 24-hour period. All events are free and open to all levels of birders. Join youth from across the world in the Climate Change-Makers Three-Day Challenge to create solutions for our climate crisis!

The UWindsor Green Team is recruiting volunteers to join the Earth Day community tree planting led by Essex Region Conservation Authority from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, April 27.

The conservation authority is planning to add 2,000 native trees to the city’s stock that day. The community event will take place rain or shine along the Ganatchio Trail, at the green space south of Wyandotte Street East between Florence and Martinique avenues.

We hope to take a photo of our UWindsor team, so be sure to wear your blue and gold!
