Native Prairie Garden

Native Prairie Garden at River Commons

In collaboration with Facility Services- Grounds and the Campus Community Garden, native plant species are welcomed into a new area on campus. Replacing two grass patches in River Commons with over 14 native, pollinator-friendly plant species! 

This garden aims to: 

  • Restore natural habitats
  • Support pollinators and wildlife
  • Protect local biodiversity
  • Serve as a living space for conservation and education while fostering connections with community and nature

Opening of The Native Prairie Garden

Join us as we re-naturalize campus with native plant species and acknowledge the land with an Opening and Welcoming by Elder Myrna. 

Date: Monday September 21st, 2026

Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Location: River Commons, Garden beds near Turtle Sculpture (between Lambton and Chrysler Hall South)

Formal planting event will take place at 5:00pm with the Faculty of Education.
