Campus to kick off Canada Career Month

November is Canada Career Month and Co-op, Career and Employment Services has planned several events to help students gain the experience they need to succeed in career planning and development.

On November 3, Career and Employment Services has teamed up with Alumni Affairs to host a Campus to Career Networking Event at Fourteen Restaurant and Sky Lounge for new and soon-to-be alumni. The event will feature keynote speaker Yvonne Pilon, president of WEtech Alliance, as well as representatives from professional groups and networking organizations.

November 7 is the launch event for It All Adds Up, a social media campaign aimed at increasing skill awareness built from the experience that students have already acquired. This initiative will run throughout the entire month at various locations on campus. The launch runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre Commons, and students who participate will be eligible to win tickets to the Georgie-Odette Leadership Symposium on November 17.

On November 9 Career and Employment Services and the CAW Student Centre are co-hosting the Lancers Care Volunteer Fair. Twenty-four volunteer organizations will be on hand in the Commons, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to discuss opportunities to build experience through volunteering, as well as how they may be of service to you.

“All these great career events – and this is only what’s happening in the first week!” says Meagan Haugh, co-op program development coordinator. “Remember, it is never too early, or too late, to start planning a career path.”

She invites students to visit the new Career and Employment Services office in the Joyce Entrepreneurship Centre during drop-in hours or make an appointment to meet with a career advisor on mySuccess, and to stay tuned for more information on career month activities.
