This launch of Rosemary Nixon's Writer-in-Residency at the University of Windsor will kick off with a reading by graduate student and fiction writer, Chloe Burrows-Moore.
Consultations
Rosemary Nixon will be available to the campus and Windsor communities for one-on-one creative writing consultations during her month-long residency, starting Jan. 24. Initially, these consults will be conducted online via Teams.
To arrange for a manuscript consultation please contact English Department Secretary, April Morris: amorris@uwindsor.ca. One week from the consultation date, please submit a maximum of 2500 words (double-spaced) of your creative writing to April Morris, and she will set up a meeting slot. Consults with Rosemary will be held Monday – Thursday, between noon and 3pm.
Rosemary Nixon is a pre-eminent short story writer, novelist, free-lance editor and a passionate creative writing instructor. Her first collection, Mostly Country, a Nunatak imprint: Especially Selected Works of Outstanding Fiction by New Western Writers, was shortlisted for the Howard O’Hagan Award. Her second collection, The Cock’s Egg won the same award. Quill and Quire’s review of Rosemary’s first novel began: “Rosemary Nixon’s Kalila is an exquisitely crafted jewel of a novel, gripping from beginning to end and astonishing in style and form.” Her most recent work of fiction, Are You Ready to be Lucky? called a hybrid by some reviewers, was nominated for two international awards: the Frank O’Connor International Short Fiction Collection Award and the Forewords Indie Fab Award.
Rosemary is a part-time editor at Freehand Books and was awarded the Lois Hole Excellence in Editing Award in 2018.
The University of Windsor Writer in Residence program
The Department of English and Creative Writing has maintained a prestigious Writer-in-Residence program since its beginnings, hosting both short-term and long-term residencies.
