From Windsor classrooms to national recognition, J. Bruce White (BA ’66) left an indelible mark on mathematics education and the countless students he inspired.
Dr. White died recently, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to shape future generations.

White, a University of Windsor alumnus and honorary degree recipient, spent decades teaching at Vincent Massey Secondary School, where his engaging lessons and commitment to excellence earned him national recognition. Beyond the classroom, he championed mathematics education through weekend camps, mentorship and outreach, inspiring students to embrace problem-solving and pursue the subject at the post-secondary level.

In the early 2000s, UWindsor awarded White an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, recognizing his remarkable impact as a teacher, mentor, and advocate for mathematical learning.

To honour his legacy, White’s daughter Sue, established the J. Bruce White Memorial Scholarship for mathematics students at UWindsor. Nearly $50,000 has already been raised, reflecting the deep gratitude of friends, former students and alumni.

Donations to the J. Bruce White Memorial Scholarship can be made through the University of Windsor’s Giving portal. Contributions will ensure his influence continues, empowering future generations to discover the same joy in mathematics that he so passionately shared.
