MMCE students gather at second annual MCEcon Conference held July 22.
More than 50 students, scientists and industry professionals gathered for the second annual MCEcon Conference on July 22.
The event, hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, gave a chance to present their research, network with experts and explore career opportunities.
Organizers say the conference provides a valuable bridge between academic research and industry, preparing graduates to make an impact in material chemistry and engineering.
“This unique networking event aims to introduce industry professionals to the high-quality research projects carried out by MMCE students,” said program coordinator and conference founder Zareen Amtul.

Attendees praised the calibre of student work, including retired Novelis senior consulting scientist John Hunter.
“I was very impressed by the quality of the students and their projects,” said Dr. Hunter.
“I greatly enjoyed my interactions with them.”
In addition to research presentations and awards, the conference featured a career development workshop led by industry professionals and UWindsor’s Career Development & Experiential Learning office, offering tips on resumes, job applications and navigating career paths.
The Ethos Engineering & Testing Best Presentation award went to MMCE student Aleena Binu for her project, Stability of Conjugated Nanoparticles in Facile Detection of Microplastics, supervised by Simon Rondeau-Gagné. The award was established by Amtul with support from industry partners.
Networking sessions, panel discussions, and mixers connected students with potential employers and mentors. The event concluded with a farewell to graduating MMCE students as they embark on the next stage of their careers.
