Three University of Windsor students were among those recognized Friday at the 2025 ATHENA Scholarship Luncheon, celebrating exceptional young women whose leadership, academic achievement and community service inspire others across the region.

Hosted by the ATHENA Scholarship Fund Windsor and the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce, the annual event honours women who exemplify ATHENA values of excellence, mentorship and empowerment.

The 2025 ATHENA Scholars include the University of Windsor’s Kaitlin Ferraro, Gihan (Gigi) Joseph and Linda Nguyen, along with Sarah Wilkins of St. Clair College.

Each receives a $5,000 scholarship for their achievements and commitment to community involvement, potential for leadership, academic excellence and efforts towards inspiring women to reach their full potential.

Ferraro, a fourth-year student in biomedical science, was recognized for founding Students Advancing Leadership for Women and Sport (S.A.W.S.) and mentoring peers through initiatives supporting mental health and student well-being.

Joseph, who graduated from Windsor Law in 2025, was honoured for her advocacy in breaking down economic and social barriers through initiatives such as the Community Closet Initiative and Windsor Cares Community Collective.

Nguyen, who earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences this year, combines academic excellence with a global perspective through her volunteer work and nonprofit leadership.

The recipients were on hand to make a brief presentation about their educational experience and career aspirations.

ATHENA Scholarship Fund Windsor president Loretta Stoyka commended the scholars for their dedication and impact.

“Each recipient embodies the spirit of ATHENA. Their values, leadership, and determination inspire others to reach higher,” said Stoyka.

Paralympic gold medalist and leadership coach Danielle Campo McLeod served as the event’s keynote speaker, delivering an uplifting address titled “The Champion Within,” encouraging attendees to recognize the strength that comes from resilience, authenticity and service to others.

The University of Windsor is a proud partner in the ATHENA Scholarship Program, recognizing students who lead with compassion, advocate for equity and create positive change across campus and beyond.
