The University of Windsor strives to create a fully inclusive and welcoming environment for all. This involves the entire campus community working together to prevent, identify, and remove barriers for people who have disabilities.
In celebration of the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), UWindsor is hosting a student-led workshop to raise awareness about inclusive practices and the experiences of persons with disabilities, with accessible practices embedded to ensure everyone can participate fully
Established by the United Nations in 1992, IDPD encourages global reflection on the barriers faced by persons with disabilities and showcases practical ways to advance inclusion.
The 2025 theme, “Fostering Disability Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress,” emphasizes the importance of building environments that support the rights and contributions of all individuals.
The workshop, hosted by the Office of Human Rights, Conflict Resolution and Mediation, takes place Dec. 2 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Room 3102 of the Medical Education Building and will be led by Chelsea Masson, a CNIB representative and current UWindsor student, whose lived experience and student-driven advocacy will enrich the session.
The workshop welcomes participants of all knowledge levels – no prior experience is needed.
Participants will learn practical strategies for communicating with people who are blind, partially sighted, or Deafblind, explore inclusive workplace practices and engage in interactive demonstrations such as a sighted guide exercise and simulation glasses to better understand different experiences of sight loss.
By attending, students, faculty and staff can help UWindsor continue building an equitable, diverse and inclusive campus while supporting a high-quality experience for all members of the university community.
