The University of Windsor has released its 2025 Sustainability Annual Report, highlighting significant progress in reducing emissions, strengthening sustainability-focused teaching and research and advancing a more resilient campus.

The report is available online.

The 2025 report documents strong momentum toward the University’s sustainability goals, including major gains in climate action achieved ahead of schedule.

UWindsor has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 50 per cent compared to its 2019 baseline, surpassing its original 2030 target several years early. Through campus-wide infrastructure upgrades — including modernized building systems and the installation of Canada’s first dual-drive electric–steam turbine chiller — the University has transformed how it consumes energy, positioning campus for long-term climate resilience.

Sustainability at UWindsor extends beyond infrastructure investments.

The report highlights a growing academic culture that places sustainability at the core of teaching, research and the student experience. Faculty and students are contributing to projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, partnering with community organizations and developing practical solutions to complex global and local challenges. These initiatives enhance student learning and equip graduates with the skills needed to lead in a rapidly changing world.

Transparent reporting remains central to the University’s approach. Detailed performance metrics, climate-related financial disclosures and clear governance structures provide insight into how UWindsor is tracking progress and planning for the future. This commitment reflects the priorities outlined in the University’s strategic plan, Aspire: Together for Tomorrow, which emphasizes responsible stewardship, accountability and long-term sustainability.

The release of the 2025 Sustainability Annual Report marks both a milestone and a call to action. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to explore the report, learn more about initiatives underway and consider how individual actions contribute to a more sustainable campus culture.
