Students and faculty nourished both stomachs and minds at the Stacks for STEM pancake breakfast on Wednesday, Feb. 4 as part of the seventh annual Defrazzling the Brain Week, organized by the Behaviour, Cognition and Neuroscience Students' Association (BCNSA).

More than 200 students shared breakfast and informal conversations with their professors in the Essex CORe Atrium.

The event was a collaboration between the BCNSA, the Science Society, the Faculty of Science as well as the Department of Integrative Biology.

“The goal was to encourage mental wellness and to help students feel more comfortable approaching faculty and academic advisors in a relaxed setting,” says student organiser Nishanth Muthukumar.

Faculty members welcomed the opportunity to connect with students.

“It was wonderful to see student-led initiatives and students and faculty interacting in such an informal setting,” says Dr. Claudio Verani, dean of science.

“Events like this break down barriers, strengthen our sense of community in Science and remind students we are here to support them.”
