Explore grant applications related to substantive area of interest

Meet with faculty members to consider as supervisor

Winter-Year 1

SWRK-9730 History & Theory in Social Work

SWRK-9741 Qualitative Data Analysis

SWRK-9744 Quantitative Data Analysis

Select a faculty member as supervisor early in the term (Supervisor expected though not required to be Dissertation Supervisor)

Submit Annual Progress Report (Covers September 8 to May 31)

Summer-Year 1

SWRK-9980 Dissertation Research (maintain continuous enrollment)

Develop comprehensive paper proposal, in consultation with supervisor, and obtain final approval by September 1st of the second year.

Fall-Year 2

SWRK-9980 Dissertation Research

Comprehensive Paper

Work with supervisor to identify a second faculty reader for comprehensive paper

Work independently to complete comprehensive paper – pass by January 1stof the 2ndyear.

Winter-Year 2

SWRK-9795 Dissertation Seminar

Dissertation Proposal

Ongoing consultations with supervisor on the research area and completing dissertation proposal.

Submit Annual Progress Report (covers September 8 to May 31).

Summer-Year 2+

SWRK-9980 Dissertation Research

Dissertation Proposal 

Consult with supervisor about others to include on doctoral committee and submit a Doctoral Committee Form to Faculty of Graduate Studies for approval.

Continue work on and defend dissertation proposal 

Student achieves candidacy status after dissertation proposal successfully defended.

Submit Annual Progress Reports at end of every Winter semester.
