TIPS (Timely Insight for Productive Study)

TIPS aims to instruct students with up-to-date information and strategies for academic success in a changing technological environment and is divided into five topics:

Integrated Study Habits - Utilizing active listening and reading, effective note taking, and high-impact study strategies.

Research Rituals - Identifying topics, formulating research questions and thesis statements, finding and analyzing journal articles, academic integrity, and making use of academic sources.

Evaluation, Analysis, and Critique - Identifying the structure of an argument, evaluating and identifying implications of evidence, principles of effective criticism.

Unspoken Conventions at University - Emailing your professor, how to prepare for attending office hours, student rights and responsibilities, and how to self-advocate when experiencing setbacks or conflict.

Studying with Generative AI - Generative AI and respect for Academic Integrity, maintaining curiosity and struggle in learning with AI, time blocking using AI, AI study hacks.

Peer Academic Support

Peer Academic Support will be offered to supplement the TIPS workshop series to be launched by Student Success and Leadership in October of 2026. The purpose of Peer Academic Support is to provide individualized advice to assist students with applying the principles introduced through TIPS to their specific situations, support all students, but especially those unfamiliar with academic best practices, with their studies, and equip all students with the strategies they need to succeed academically at University of Windsor.
