TITLE: Development of a Non-Kinetic Monte Carlo Framework to Evaluate Carbon Black Morphology
Abstract
This research presents the development of a computational framework to evaluate carbon black morphology without using the conventional Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) approach. Traditional KMC-based population balance models can capture particle growth and aggregation dynamics in carbon black formation; however, they are computationally expensive and slow for large-scale simulations. To address this limitation, a KMC-free modeling framework is developed to reproduce the aggregation behavior and fractal structure of carbon black particles while significantly reducing computational cost. The methodology reconstructs key reaction and aggregation mechanisms from existing simulation codes and implements them in a simplified computational structure that captures the essential physical characteristics of carbon black formation. Preliminary benchmarking results show that the proposed framework reduces simulation time from 1276 seconds to 239 seconds, representing approximately an 80% improvement in computational efficiency while maintaining key morphological characteristics. Future work will focus on systematic validation of the framework through comparison with the original KMC-based model to ensure predictive accuracy and reliability.
