Following limited progress in labour negotiations, the Minister of Labour has issued “No Board” reports for both Unifor 444 Special Constable Service and Unifor 2458 Operating Engineers. A “No Board” report and a strike vote are common occurrences during collective bargaining.
A “No Board” Report begins a 17-day countdown to the earliest possible legal strike or lockout date. This means as of September 1, 2025, both unions have the legal right to strike, and the University has the legal right to initiate a lockout of employees in the bargaining units. The University and unions continue to meet and negotiate during this period.
The University respects the collective bargaining process. We are committed to working collaboratively to reach tentative agreements with both Unifor 444 Special Constable Service and Unifor 2458 Operating Engineers.
As bargaining discussions continue, the University will keep the campus community informed. In the event of a labour disruption, updates will be posted on this webpage before and throughout any legal strike action.
