Sessional / Overload Appointments

The Department intends to offer the following course(s) during
WINTER 2024 SEMESTER

In accordance with Article 54 of the 2021-25 Faculty Association Collective Agreement, the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures/Langues, Littératures et Cultures invites applications from qualified individuals interested in teaching the following course(s) during Winter 2024.*

 

Course ASIA-2640-01 Special Topics in Chinese Literature                                                                            
TR 1:00-2:20 pm

  • This course covers the development of modern Chinese literature in English translation.  Classic works and literary characters will be classified and analyzed.  Students will compare different writing genres and integrate them with the socio-cultural background of modern Chinese writers.  
  • The successful candidate will have:
  1. An MA or PhD in Literary Studies or another relevant field, with a focus on Chinese language, literature, or culture
  2. Native or near native fluency in Mandarin
  3. A record of successful teaching at the University level.

 

Course ARAB-1100-1 Introduction to Arabic I                                                                                                 
MW  5:20-6:50pm

  • Introduces vocabulary and the basic elements of Arabic language structure.  Students will acquire a basic level of expertise in the four communication skills:  listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • The successful candidate will have:
  1. An MA or PhD in Literary Studies or Linguistics or another relevant field, with a focus on Arabic language, literature, or culture
  2. Native or near native fluency in Arabic
  3. A record of successful teaching at the University level.

Course FREN-1220-3 French Language Training II - HOLD                                                                           
MW 10:00-11:20am

  • Further study of the norms and functions of the French verb system, nouns, pronouns, and modifiers.  Oral practice, pronunciation, and composition.
     
  • The successful candidate will have:
  1. An MA or PhD in Literary Studies or Linguistics or another relevant field, with a focus on French language, literature, or culture
  2. Native or near native fluency in French
  3. A record of successful teaching at the University level.

 

Course FREN-1220-4 French Language Training II - HOLD                                                                             
TR 11:30-12:50pm

Course FREN-2220-2 French Language Training IV -- HOLD                                                                          
MW 11:30-12:50pm

  • Effective oral and written communication.  Demonstration and discussion of spoken and written codes, oral exercises ands written practice.
  • The successful candidate will have:
  1. An MA or PhD in Literary Studies or Linguistics or another relevant field, with a focus on French language, literature, or culture
  2. Native or near native fluency in French
  3. A record of successful teaching at the University level.

Course GRMN-1020-1 Intensive German for Beginners                                                                            
MTWR 8:30-9:50am

  • This intensive language-training course combines the content of two courses into a single term.
  •  The successful candidate will have:
  1. An MA or PhD in Literary Studies or Linguistics or another relevant field, with a focus on German language, literature, or culture
  2. Native or near native fluency in German
  3. A record of successful teaching at the University level.


ALL Candidates should include the following (failure to include these items may affect the evaluation outcomes):

  • A brief statement that explains how the applicant’s teaching and research background prepares her/him to teach this particular course
  • A previous syllabus related to the subject matter or a sample syllabus of the advertised course
  • A statement of teaching philosophy and interests (teaching dossier) as well as evidence of impact on student outcomes (which can include student feedback and ratings such as student perceptions of teaching or SPTs).

New Applications should include the following: (If candidate has previously taught at U of Windsor review Article 54:08 b)

  • Letter of application, including statement of citizenship/immigration status
  • A current curriculum vitae (for the Faculty Association template click here:  https://www.wufa.ca/article-131/schedule-a-curriculum-vitae-form
  • Three current letters of reference sent directly by the referee to the email noted below
  • Evidence of qualifications (e.g.  certification of degrees, dissertation, and thesis topic)
  • Provide a list of all courses taught.

 

Candidates who have previously taught at the University in the past two (2) years (article 54:08) and have submitted their written statement of interest by March 1 annually shall be considered for all courses to which they are qualified to teach.  Those who have taught previously at the University shall not be required to complete the application form or supply letters of recommendation for each reappointment (article 54:08 b).
