Transfer Students

Thank you for considering the University of Windsor's Juris Doctor (JD) program for your legal education journey. Our transfer program offers a unique opportunity for candidates who have successfully completed their first year of a law program at another common law school to seamlessly transition into the second year of our JD program.

We are committed to providing a supportive environment for our students, fostering academic excellence, and preparing future legal professionals for success in their careers. If you have questions about the transfer process or our JD program, please contact us. We look forward to welcoming you to the University of Windsor.

Admissions Process:

Applications for transfer into the Juris Doctor Program are evaluated based on the availability of places. Preference is given to applicants who have attended a Canadian common law school.

Candidates may be eligible for the JD degree from the University of Windsor upon the successful completion of two years of academic work, provided they meet the faculty’s academic requirements. The deadline for applications is May 1 each year.

Admission Criteria (OLSAS):

Application Review:

All applications are subject to the University of Windsor’s standard admission criteria. For applicants who have completed undergraduate studies outside of Canada and the U.S., a foreign transcript assessment by World Education Services or an equivalent service is required. However, applicants with graduate studies outside of Canada and the U.S. are exempt from this requirement, though an assessment may be requested.

Deadline for Applications

For both Transfer and Letter of Permission applicants, the deadline for submitting the OLSAS online application is May 1. All required documentation, including final transcripts and letters of reference, must be received by OLSAS by June 30.
