Kaitlin Ferraro rappels down CIBC Building on Riverside Drive in Windsor, Ontario.

Eyes were trained skyward Saturday morning in downtown Windsor as hundreds of people took part in Brave Day to support cancer research fundraising.

More than 100 people rappelled down the CIBC Building on Riverside Drive as part of a Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation Show Us Your Brave campaign event.

Fundraising participants were invited to put away their own fears in support of cancer patients.

A computer science graduate is likely one of the youngest that has ever crossed the stage at convocation.

Richard Nonso, 19, successfully completed the Honours Applied Computing program having started at the University of Windsor at just 15 years old.

“I had constant reassurance from my parents that I’ve tackled these kinds of challenges before,” said Nonso.

University of Windsor researchers were flooded with so many responses to a medical gaslighting survey, they had to take breaks from reading the heartbreaking stories about patients being overlooked by medical providers for serious health concerns they were facing. 

A lot of people carry their pain in their thoughts, and through telling their stories,” says Ananya Sood behaviour, cognition and neuroscience student and one of the undergraduates on the project. 

It’s heavy as people share some of the worst moments of their life sometimes with you. But it has been powerful in that they were able to share their voice with us now.”

When Hossein Jafari first arrived at UWindsor’s campus in January of 2024, he had two destinations. First, the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation, where his Master of Engineering Civil Engineering program would be housed, and second, the Toldo Lancer Centre, where he would start to build both mind and body towards a future in competitive bodybuilding. 

“When I saw the fitness facilities, I was shocked. Wow!” remarked Jafari.

In a two-acre greenhouse dedicated to research and development at JEM Farms in Kingsville, Ont., Shahpour Alirezaee is working on advanced technology to help growers improve plant pollination. 

Dr. Alirezaee, a University of Windsor engineering professor specializing in mechatronics and robotics, is developing an autonomous robotic pollination system.

Their research won best paper awards at the 2025 Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) annual conference held in May.
