How one UWindsor student helped shape a town’s digital future

From social media posts to public memos, how municipalities communicate with residents is a delicate art — one where every word and visual can shape how people engage with their government. 

It’s something third-year communication, media and film student Adrian Yonan learned firsthand during his internship with the Town of Tecumseh.

University of Windsor student Bianca Toma entered a high-pressure legal workplace and quickly proved she could handle real legal responsibility as a second-year student.

In her second year of the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Co-operative Education) program, Toma completed her placement at the Law Office of Amy Osman Professional Corporation, working as a legal assistant supporting immigration and criminal law files while gaining direct experience inside Ontario courtrooms.

More than 65 high school students from across Windsor-Essex spent a day as international delegates, debating global issues and negotiating resolutions.

The University of Windsor’s Model United Nations team hosted its annual conference this semester for a day of debate, negotiation and collaboration.

“It was amazing to have a room full of so many people,” said Model UN president and secretary-general Matthew Najem.

At the United Nations, efforts to combat homophobic and transphobic discrimination have triggered clashes with states that challenge LGBT rights as a “legitimate” human right.

Canadian diplomat Dr. Douglas Victor Janoff examines these tensions and the reasons behind them in his book Queer Diplomacy: Homophobia, International Relations and LGBT Human Rights, which he will discuss at a talk at the University of Windsor on Thursday March 12.
